The funeral service for the late Leona Kofa, former wife of a Council Member of the Liberian Community Association of New York City (LICANY), was held today(August 27th, 2026) at Salem United Methodist Church, 7th Avenue & 129th Street, Harlem, New York.

The solemn service brought together a broad cross-section of Liberians from different walks of life, including current and former leaders of LICANY, members of the Millennium Men of Liberia, bereaved family members, sympathizers, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to pay their final respects.

Rev. Noel Chin of Salem United Methodist Church delivered a comforting eulogy, drawing his message from Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd.” His message offered words of faith, hope, and consolation to the grieving family.

One of the most touching moments of the service came as Leona’s children spoke passionately and from their hearts about their beloved mother, sharing cherished memories and reflecting on the love, care, and lasting impact she had on their lives.

The service was a moving celebration of Leona’s life and a powerful demonstration of the unity and compassion of the Liberian community during a time of loss.

May God continue to comfort and strengthen the children, family, and loved ones of the late Leona Kofa, and may her soul rest in everlasting peace.
